Born in Victoria, Janis moved to Vancouver after graduating with honours in the Fine Arts from the University of Victoria.

She worked in fashion retail for many years while pursuing her art career. This experience reflects in the art, as the women she paints portray characters similar to creating outfits for the wardrobes to match the unique personalities of customers. While living in Vancouver Janis participated in many group and solo shows in the city and her work can be seen in public collections as well as private. After raising her family in North Vancouver, Janis and her husband moved to the Okanagan in 2010. With much exuberance Janis embraced the wine culture and experiences of the tourists, locals and vineyards into her art. Showing in wineries and then her own gallery space in one of the Naramata wineries her art flourished.

The pull towards family brought Janis and her husband back to Vancouver island in 2015. Janis was involved with The Gage Gallery Collective which introduced her to many new artist friends and connections in the city. Janis represents herself as well as Excellent Frameworks and Fine Art Gallery in Duncan, B.C.  She is still creating art and wine labels for wineries. Acryclic and gouache are her favoured mediums.
